Quantum Readiness Assessment

Is your organisation ready for Q-Day?

Q-Day is the day a quantum computer becomes powerful enough to break the encryption that protects today’s data, payments and communications. Our consultants work alongside your team to show where you stand, what is at risk, and how to be ready in time, explained in plain business language.

Why It Matters

The risk in three points

inventory_2

Data stolen today can be read tomorrow

Attackers can copy encrypted data now and wait until a quantum computer can unlock it. Anything that must stay confidential for years is already exposed.

The upgrade takes years

Encryption sits inside almost every system, device and supplier you rely on. Replacing it is a multi-year business programme, not a single IT fix.

gavel

Deadlines are already set

Authorities in the US, UK and EU expect the most sensitive systems to be protected by around 2030 and the move to be finished by 2035. Regulators, customers and partners are starting to ask about your plans.

Assessment Options

Choose the assessment that fits you

All three are carried out by our consultants working directly with your people. No automated scans and no access to your live systems are needed.

Option 1 · Get started

Executive Briefing & Workshop

A first, fast view of your quantum risk for leadership teams that are just starting the conversation.

schedule Typically 1–2 weeks

What we do

  • checkPlain-language briefing on Q-Day for your leadership
  • checkHalf-day workshop to identify your most sensitive data and services
  • checkShort conversations with your IT and security leads

What you get

  • checkAn initial readiness rating
  • checkYour top risks in business terms
  • checkRecommended next steps and who should own them

schedule Typically 4–6 weeks

What we do

  • checkEverything in Option 1
  • checkInterviews with IT, security, risk and business owners
  • checkReview of your key systems, data and main suppliers
  • checkRanking of what to protect first, and why

schedule Typically 8–12 weeks

What we do

  • checkEverything in Option 2, across the whole organisation
  • checkSupplier and partner review, including questions for contracts
  • checkGovernance setup: owner, steering group and policies

What you get

  • checkA multi-year roadmap aligned to regulatory deadlines
  • checkBudget and resourcing estimates

How We Help

Six ways we get your organisation ready

After the assessment, pick the support you need. Some organisations use all six; others only need help with one or two.

school 01

Build understanding

Briefings and training so leaders and staff know what Q-Day means for the business and what is expected of them.

Find what needs protecting

Working with your teams, we map where the business relies on encryption that quantum computers could break, including at your suppliers.

route 03

Plan, budget and govern

A realistic roadmap with owners, budget and milestones, plus the governance to keep it on track and report progress to the board.

Protect the most sensitive data first

Add quantum-safe protection to the systems that hold long-lived secrets, such as customer records, contracts and intellectual property.

Upgrade systems and suppliers

Staged upgrades that start with a small pilot, plus support in asking vendors for their quantum-safe plans and building them into contracts.

Set up systems and policies so the next change of encryption is quick and low-cost, not another multi-year project.

Your Timeline

The road to Q-Day readiness

Nobody knows the exact date of Q-Day. These stages follow official guidance from NIST (US), the NCSC (UK) and the EU, and assume you start now.

  1. Now – 2026

    1. Understand and decide

Brief the leadership team, name an owner, run a readiness assessment and set aside a budget.

Milestone: the EU asks member states to begin the move by the end of 2026.

  2. 2026 – 2028

    2. Find and plan

Build a full picture of where vulnerable encryption is used, ask suppliers for their plans and agree a funded roadmap.

Milestone: the UK NCSC expects discovery and an initial plan by 2028.

  3. 2028 – 2031

    3. Protect what matters most

Upgrade the systems that hold your most sensitive, long-lived data, and start replacing hardware that can’t be updated.

Milestone: NIST plans to phase out today’s common encryption after 2030; the EU targets high-risk systems by 2030.

  4. 2031 – 2035

    4. Complete the move

Finish upgrading the remaining systems and retire the old encryption for good.

Milestone: NIST, the UK and the EU all target 2035 for full migration.

Common Questions

Questions leaders often ask

Is this really a concern for us today? add

If any of your data must stay confidential for more than a few years, yes. It can be copied now and unlocked later, and the upgrade itself takes years.

Do you need access to our systems? add

No. We don’t run automated scans or install software. We work through conversations, workshops and the documents you choose to share.

How much of our team’s time will it take? add

Usually a few hours per person. Leadership sessions are non-technical, and we arrange separate, shorter sessions with IT and security staff.

What happens after the assessment? add

You can carry out the plan with your own team, or we can help deliver any of the six steps above. There is no obligation either way.
